The Kammanassie Dam was built in 1923 to store water for irrigation purposes. It is located on the Kammanassie river, appoximately 20km south-east of Oudtshoorn. The route starts with a steep climb over the Outeniqua Mountains via Montagu Pass then gradually descends over district farm roads via Herold, through Paardepoort, towards the western side of the Kammanassie Dam, and back.
