About George Trails
SA’s largest and most diverse network of MTB, trail running and hiking routes.
George Trails is a trail-tourism project managed by the George Joint Marketing Association NPC on behalf of George Tourism.
Why George Trails?
Landscape Diversity
Within just 20 km you’ll find indigenous forest, coastal fynbos, farmland, pine plantations, ocean views, and Karoo semi-desert. Few places in South Africa offer such striking contrasts in such close proximity.
Trail Diversity
From gentle family paths to technical singletrack, George Trails caters to mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers of all levels. Ride iconic passes, run through shaded forests, or hike into panoramic peaks – there’s a route for every mood and fitness level.
Gateway Infrastructure
With a national airport, Go George bus service, excellent medical care, and vibrant hospitality sector, George combines trail adventure with small-city convenience. The N2 and N9 put iconic routes like Montagu Pass and Prince Alfred’s Pass within easy reach.
Affordable Adventure
Accommodation, dining, and activities are often more affordable than Stellenbosch or Pietermaritzburg, making George an excellent value-for-money trail destination.
Year-Round Climate
Mild weather and moderate temperatures make George ideal for all-season outdoor adventure.
A Community Spirit
George Trails is built on partnerships with local clubs, businesses, and landowners. By supporting it, visitors directly help grow trail tourism, create jobs, and sustain a thriving community.
