George Trails Network
Routes and trails with a similar activity and/or starting point are grouped together into a trail network.

Beaches (6)
A selection of beach routes along our beautiful surrounding coastline. Suitable for hiking, running and ‘fat’ mountain biking.

Bergplaas (4)
A system of MTB routes located to the east of George, above the Hoekwil area. Be ready to climb a lot if you take this on.

Botanical Gardens (6)
The beautiful gardens are a local landmark and worth exploring. It’s the venue for the local Park Run and some trail running/hiking routes start here.

Geelhoutboom (5)
This system lies to the west of George and is mainly made up of district roads between farmlands with views of the Outeniqua mountains.

Ground Zero (3)
Routes start close to Ground Zero Bike & Trail Park. Restaurant, pump track and kids playground make this a local favourite.

Karoo (7)
A whole new biosphere awaits as you make your way inland via the historic Montagu Pass. Routes are mostly ‘out & back’.

Oubos (4)
A selection of MTB routes above Geelhoutboom on the slopes of Jonkersberg. Coffee is available along the way at Arendsrus.

Outeniqua (5)
Trail running and hiking routes starting at the Witfontein Cape Nature office. Access George and Cradock peaks from here.

Paddling (6)
A selection of flatwater paddling routes on rivers, dams and lagoons around George, from Great Brak to Island Lake.

Saasveld (6)
An area next to the Garden Route Dam with great single tracks. Includes the Groeneweide hiking trails and Tierkop MTB route.

Seven Passes (6)
The historic Seven Passes road between George and Knysna offers scenic views. Stop for coffee at the Garden Route Trail Park.

Sputnik (4)
Located at the top of the Outeniqua Pass, this red and white tower, known as ‘Sputnik’, is the start to a variety of beautiful hiking/trail running routes.

Wilderness (5)
A beautiful, quaint little village, definitely worth a visit, offers a variety of MTB, trail running and hiking routes around the lakes area.

Witfontein (4)
Witfontein is known for its awesome singletracks in the Outeniqua Nature Reserve. Routes start at the Witfontein Cape Nature office.

Bird Watching Trails
These trails are hotspots for birdlife. Bring your binoculars and explore routes where kingfishers, fish eagles, and sunbirds are often spotted, especially in early morning or late afternoon.

Family-Friendly Trails
Trails ideal for families with kids. These trails offer safe, manageable distances and easy access from George and Wilderness.

Scenic Trails
Explore trails with panoramic views of mountains, forests, and coastlines. These routes reward walkers and hikers with scenic lookouts, ridge-top vantage points and open stretches that showcase the natural beauty of the Garden Route.
