George 6 Peaks

The George 6 Peaks FKT

This challenge entails summiting the following most prominent 6 peaks of the Outeniqua Mountain range in George. You have to tag all 6 peaks in one day and move on foot between the various peaks from the start to the finish.

You will be tagging these 6 peaks throughout the day:

  • Vensterberg – 1287m
  • Keurkop – 1199m
  • George Peak – 1337m
  • Cradock Peak- 1578m
  • Tierkop – 778m
  • Vandalens – 911m

The distance is roughly 42km with an elevation gain of 3300m, depending on the route you take. Still to be added to this is the 5 km downhill run, walk or crawl  back to Trail Kiosk after your attempt finishes at Vandalens– commonly known as the “Escape Route”

It’s on the bucket list for most hardcore trail runners who want to challenge themselves and it is no easy feat to accomplish. It is one of George FKT’s (Fastest Known Time) challenges.

The weather can be unpredictable at an altitude of more than 800m, even with sunny forecasts, so please make sure you have all the necessary compulsory gear. An extra warm top or base layer is advisable.
