Camferskloof

Distance: 6.5 km
Time: Trail Running 2.5 h
Time: Hiking 5 - 7 h

The trail starts at ‘Sputnik’ (the local landmark beacon at the top of the Outeniqua Pass). From this point, the route immediately climbs into the Outeniqua Mountains. This is a mountain-traverse route, which typically involves a tough initial ascent before following the ridge lines and then descending through the ravines of the Camferskloof area, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and fynbos.

Key segments often include the ascent via the steep “Bonecrusher” path to the skyline ridge or heading toward Vensterberg before joining longer loops.

The weather can be unpredictable at an altitude of more than 800m, even with sunny forecasts, so please make sure you have all the necessary compulsory gear. An extra warm top or base layer is advisable.

Strenuous and long, suitable for experienced hikers. Requires careful planning for water and weather.
