Herold is a hamlet on the back side of the Montagu Pass, north of George. It was named after TJ Herold, a Dutch Reformed Minister of George from 1812-1823. This route takes you out to Herold and back again. There is a water point at the back of the Post Office and coffee and cake at Over the Mountain in ‘town’ which is perfect for a coffee stop after what can be some hard work up the pass.
