Definition of a trail

A recreational trail can be a corridor, route or pathway, generally land or water based, primarily intended for sport or recreational purposes, including walking, hiking, cycling, canoeing or horse-riding. It normally have strong linkages with natural environments and even local heritage and may be located in rural or urban environments. Trails typically have a distinguishing and suitable surface or pathway, are usually marked and should be designed and managed for the purpose intended.

In the context of the George Trails project, trails and routes will have the meaning of single tracks/plantation roads/jeep tracks/district dirt roads or even beaches, mostly in natural environments for the use of mountain biking, trail running and hiking as prescribed for each route.
