Paardepoort

Just north of the Montagu Pass the road follows the Doring river through Heroldt and towards the Paardepoort Pass.  This pass forms a natural northern extension to the Montagu Pass. The road is mostly smooth gravel making for an easy traverse towards Oudtshoorn. The short pass setting is reminiscent of Bain’s work (pass building) of the late 1800s with substantial retaining walls still adequately propping the old road up.
