We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it.

We are thoughtful about the personal information we ask you to provide and the personal information that we collect about you through the operation of our services.

Please note that this Privacy Policy does not apply to any of our suppliers, advertisers, retail vendors or their respective services that have a separate privacy policy.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Your contact information

We ask for basic information from you in order to set up and manage your George Trails subscription account.  We collect an email address, name, surname, username, ID number & telephone number to setup a service in your name.

Additional information

We collect a business / company name, emergency contact name and telephone number.

Via Subscriptions

When visitors subscribe, complete a contact form or leave comments on the site, we collect the data that you provide to us in the subscription forms, comments form and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. We do not share your profile or uploaded images with anyone.

Contact forms

You may also provide us information when you respond to surveys, communicate with us about a support questions, or post a question in our public forums.

George Trails uses cookies and other technologies like pixel tags to help us identify and track visitors, usage, and access preferences for our Services, as well as track and understand email campaign effectiveness and to deliver targeted ads.

Ecommerce or Payment Information

If you purchase a subscription from us, the information you supplied for payment is collected on the Payfast portal and NOT stored on our services.  The process is redirected for your safety to be completed through the Payfast servers. Their privacy policy can be viewed here.

Who we share your data with

Currently (2018) we do not share your collected data and personal information with anyone or any third party for advertising purposes.  This might change in the future and will be noted in the Terms & Conditions upon entering into subscription services.

Your profile is not made available for sale or publicly visible from our side.  Login details to your profile is supplied to the email address provided. Your profile is protected by a password of your choosing and ultimately your responsibility to keep it safe and your decision on sharing such information.

We may disclose information about you when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of third parties, or the public at large. For example, if we have a good faith belief that there is an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury, we may disclose information related to the emergency without delay.

We provide a George Trails Identity Card for use at third party vendors, which disclose the following information:  Name and Surname of the card holder, South African identity number, telephone number, subscription type and emergency contact name, surname and telephone number.  This card is issued to you only.

How long we retain your data

If you subscribe to our service, we keep your data for as long as your subscription is valid or active.

We also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We do not sell our users’ private personal information.

Currently (2018) we do not share your personal information with any third party vendor but this may change in future and you will be informed about any policy changes.
